Project Philosophy

 

The Amazon WaSH Project is driven by the philosophy of building capacity, and not dependency, in the Maijuna communities. We are committed to forming an equal partnership with the Maijuna, treating them with dignity and respect. For that reason we believe that all issues addressed in the communities must be self-identified and that the Maijuna must drive the process. Lastly, we believe strongly in quality over quantity. We measure our success in the depth of our impact and the change that we are able to affect, not in raw numbers. It is critical that we focus on the quality of our projects, not on the quantity of units installed; that means doing things right, even if it takes a little longer, as this will ultimately lead to true long-term success.
