The Sanitation and Hygiene Workshops

Our sanitation and hygiene workshops consist of interactive lessons with individual families that teach basic germ theory, proper hand washing and tooth brushing techniques, rehydration methods, and what to do when sick. Lessons are also focused on the proper and clean use of the biosand water filters, to eliminate the potential of contamination. In order to effectively communicate this information, we engage family members, especially children, through a variety of demonstrations and hands on activities that serve as visual aids. For example, after demonstrating proper tooth brushing techniques using oversized model teeth, we use plaque-disclosing tablets to show a visual representation of germs on teeth, and then have children use proper brushing techniques to remove the purple coloring. Our lessons provide families with knowledge and techniques that can make a direct and lasting difference in the health of all family members.
