As global populations steadily increase, especially in the coastal regions, the city lights are contributing to a high death toll among ecologically important organisms. Light pollution is a rising cause for public concern because it is interrupting migration and reproductive patterns of both marine and terrestrial organisms. An increase in policy awareness must occur in order to address the negative consequences of light pollution. This awareness must be advocated to the public in order to protect our global ecosystem.
